I bought this specifically because it looked smooth and not made out of some "lava-rock" stuff like a lot of aquarium ornaments. It is made out of that lava-rock stuff. It comes with the rocks glued into it. it is not a dark marble color as the picture shows. It is more of a flat gray color with a few streaks of dark gray.
